How to open file with DTG extension?
There can be multiple causes why you have problems with opening DTG files on given system. Fortunately, most common problems with DTG files can be solved without in-depth IT knowledge, and most importantly, in a matter of minutes. The list below will guide you through the process of addressing the encountered problem.
Step 1. Install Desktop Guitar software
The main and most frequent cause precluding users form opening DTG files is that no program that can handle DTG files is installed on user’s system. The solution is straightforward, just download and install Desktop Guitar. The full list of programs grouped by operating systems can be found above. The safest method of downloading Desktop Guitar installed is by going to developer’s website (Desktop Music, LLC.) and downloading the software using provided links.
Step 2. Check the version of Desktop Guitar and update if needed
If the problems with opening DTG files still occur even after installing Desktop Guitar, it is possible that you have an outdated version of the software. Check the developer’s website whether a newer version of Desktop Guitar is available. Sometimes software developers introduce new formats in place of that already supports along with newer versions of their applications. The reason that Desktop Guitar cannot handle files with DTG may be that the software is outdated. The most recent version of Desktop Guitar is backward compatible and can handle file formats supported by older versions of the software.
Step 3. Assign Desktop Guitar to DTG files
After installing Desktop Guitar (the most recent version) make sure that it is set as the default application to open DTG files. The next step should pose no problems. The procedure is straightforward and largely system-independent

- Select Desktop Guitar and click
- If you followed the previous steps a message should appear: This change will be applied to all files with DTG extension. Next, click the button to finalize the process.
Step 4. Check the DTG for errors
Should the problem still occur after following steps 1-3, check if the DTG file is valid. Being unable to access the file can be related to various issues.
1. Verify that the DTG in question is not infected with a computer virus
Should it happed that the DTG is infected with a virus, this may be that cause that prevents you from accessing it. Immediately scan the file using an antivirus tool or scan the whole system to ensure the whole system is safe. DTG file is infected with malware? 2. Verify that the DTG file’s structure is intact
